Hey there, friends,
First off, I’d like to thank everyone who has subscribed to the Sonoran Videogame Society, shared articles with friends, left comments, liked posts, or just continues to regularly read the posts. Your support for my writing means the world.
I’ll be honest, when I started this Substack, I was concerned it might become just another failed endeavor, but I’ve been surprised at the interest and engagement. Substack isn’t without its faults, but I’m grateful for the community it offers, and I’m looking forward to connecting with new friends over the coming months.
Posting Time Change
Since I started Sonoran Videogame Society in mid-April, I’ve written two articles a week consistently. To me, eight articles a month is a solid amount, but due to some upcoming life changes (work things mostly), I’m cutting back on my posting schedule.
Expect 4-6 articles a month for the foreseeable future.
Monsoon Madness Summer Special
Starting July 8th, I’m instituting a paywall for half the articles I publish in a given month.
Since I’ll be publishing between 4-6 articles a month, this means that 2-3 of the 4-6 articles will be for paid subscribers only. The other 2-3 posts a month will be completely free, as will the last 2+ months of archived posts.
At this moment, the cost to subscribe to the Sonoran Videogame Society is either $5/month, $50/year, or $100/year for Founding Members. I know this is a lot of money right now for some folks. Inflation’s been hitting everyone, and every service seems to be going the subscription route.
That’s why for the months of July and August, I’ll be slashing prices to $3/month, $30/year, and $60/year for Founding Members. That’s 40% off every tier for the next two months.
Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em
But perhaps you’re wondering: Why? Why turn on a paywall?
Because I believe my writing is worth paying for.
I’ve wrestled with asking people to pay for my work. I think a lot of writers on Substack do. But at the end of the day, I either believe my work is worth money or I don’t.
I’ve been writing online for the last 14 years. In that time, I’ve written around 1,100 posts, all of which have been free. I will continue to write posts for free on Sonoran Videogame Society.
There’s just a handful of posts every month that will cost something to read. That’s all.
Whether you get a paid subscription or you just read the free articles, I’m really glad you’re here. Thanks for reading, commenting, and all-around supporting my writing.
And hey, speaking of free… lots of folks have subscribed in the last month that never got a chance to see some of the Society’s early articles. Check them out!

I’ll see you out there,

I've gotten a lot of enjoyment from your writing over the years, so happy to chip in here. Unfortunately I've had to enforce discipline on limiting my budget for Substack subscriptions (which can quickly get out of control), so can't promise I'll stay subbed as long as you're writing here, but I hope to!
Sounds good! Looking forward to subscribing!
