This makes me want to play it, I think I played an in-store demo once, as a kid. The color pallette reminded me of Ocarina of Time, but it felt different, that's about all I remember.

I could see Ico having some Zelda inspiration, but it is very much its own thing!

My fave game of all time. I miss the days when Sony was willing to take risks on all sorts of weird stuff.

Totally agree. I think a part of Sony died when they shut down their Japanese development divisions a few years ago.

Love this as much as much as last guardian. Must’ve beaten it at least 5 times!

Still haven't played Last Guardian, need to remedy that!

highly recommened! Its a mix of Ico and Shadow of Colussus in gameplay with the balance of puzzles and controlling a giant, and the storytelling is just as beautiful.

Thanks for writing about the game Ico. Brings back memories of me playing it on my PS2. I loved the puzzle and story setup told through the game with not much dialog. I like the cover you chose based off the Japanese version. Might play this on my PS4 just to feel nostalgic.

Yeah, Ico is just incredibly well-done from start to finish. Definitely recommend another playthrough at some point, it holds up! Thanks for reading and for your comment!

Great review. Never played this one, and I only vaguely recall hearing about it. I did play Shadow of the Colossus but never made it far.

I've come to recognize that these days I really appreciate games that leave me asking questions as opposed to dumping exposition on me. As a kid though, I found this annoying; I wanted all of my questions to be answered. I would rather the game give me a lengthy prologue that defined the setting and the protagonist's starting situation.

I think being comfortable with and even enjoying the mystery is a natural part of maturation, and you could even apply it to faith.

Couldn't agree more!

Finding the right balance between mystery and revelation... it's tough for most creators to do. Usually why they lean into one or the other super hard.

But I'm with you, at this point in my life, I prefer the mystery.

This one’s been on my “to play” list for a while. Might be time to check it out.

Definitely recommend it. It's not too pricey on the secondhand market.

Yep, I have the PS3 collection with Shadow of the Colossus. Thinking about picking up an import of the PS2 version since they have extra content…
