More good stuff. I'd heard a little about this game but hadn't seen this much information on it and didn't realize it was a Hudson product.

The first thought that came to my mind on this partnership: you could say Hudson actually returned the favor, releasing games for the SNES and Genesis while those consoles were still in competition with the Turbografx. They even offered up their most iconic franchises, Bomberman and Bonk, albeit in late-ish releases. I wonder how much this had to do with the unusual alliance between NEC and Hudson. My understanding is they had different financial incentives in the whole arrangement, which seems like a recipe for failure.

Thanks Thomas!

Good point about Hudson releasing their games for rival systems, I've never considered that.

I know very little about the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16, something I hope to remedy in the coming years.

What an oddity. I do like that packaging art though.

Speaking of Mario Maker, this makes me wonder if anyone has tried to produce faithful versions of these levels within SMM 2. To me that sounds preferable to messing around with NES romhacks.

I imagine someone has tried, although I'm not sure how easy it would be to find...

Yes, what you might call "discovery" with SMM 2 is rather lacking. It's pretty good at filtering between levels that are complete crap and ones that are reasonably well-made. But a truly inspired adaptation of SMB Special seems like something that wouldn't necessarily rise to the top.
